Case Study – Audience Segmentation Improvement

Sky is well known as a broadcaster. Sky had a project to improve audience segmentation reporting to include viewer age, social grouping, and location reporting by broadcast programme in their Business Intelligence / Data Warehousing unit. 

The work involved included:

  • Writing scripts for manual testing, functional testing, and regression testing based on requirements and Acceptance Criteria in User Stories and identification of gaps in the User Stories and Acceptance Criteria.
  • Writing automated tests using Fitnesse.
  • Execution of both manual and automated tests.
  • Creation, insertion, or modification of test data to the relevant database using SQL or imported test data from a different database.
  • Testing that the integration of differing databases and database processes was implemented correctly, and that communication between different databases was properly handled.
  • Testing that end-to-end processes were behaving as expected.
  • Deployment of new code releases using Jenkins Continuous Integration tool.
  • Raising defects with instructions for reproduction of issues and demonstration of defects to the relevant developer, chasing defect fixes where necessary in order to retest them before the end of the sprint.
